団塊世代のおじさんが、なぜかパラオ語を勉強しています。
Such an old guy like me is ,somehow or other, studying Palauan language.
すこしずつ単語や表現を増やしていく予定です。
I hope I could add Palauan words and expressions here.

パラオの小学校で使われている国語（パラオ語）の教科書で読み書きの手習いを、と思い立ち、JOCV(青年海外協力隊)隊員からペリリュー小学校の教科書をお借りしました。 どうもありがとうございました。 教科書には楽しいイラストがたくさん描いてあって、ここにも転載したいのですが、著作権の問題など不明なこともあって、残念ながら転載できません。 （2010/6 記）

凡例／Remarks
1. パラオ語の発音については、なるべくカタカナで表記せずに、発音記号で表記するようにしていますが、筆者の発音記号についての知識不足もあって、表記誤りが多々あると思われます。
As I ‘m not so familiar with phonetic symbol system, you may find incorrect phonetic symbol notations.
2. パラオ語の ch の発音については、該当する発音記号が見当たらず、Lewis S. Josephs の辞書にしたがって、[ ? ] で代用しています。
I don’t know any phonetic symbol suitable for ‘ch’ sound, so I put ‘?’ as temporal phonetic symbol for ‘ch’ according to the symbol shown in the dictionary by Lewis S. Josephs.
3. 「単語・表現のインデックス」は、「英語による表現の先頭一文字」を基本に作成しています。 例えば、「本（日本語） － hong(パラオ語） － book（英語）」の場合、インデックスは「Ｂｂ」に配置しています。
’Word/Expression Index’ are based on English word. For example, as to a word ‘book’, Palauan word is ‘hong’, Japanese word is ‘本’ and in English it’s ‘book’, then this word may belong to ‘Bb’ category.
4. できるだけネイティブ・パラワンの発音を載せるようにしています。 スピーカーのアイコンがあれば、クリックしてみてください。 音質面から、ノートブックやデスクトップのスピーカーから直接聴くより、ヘッドフォン/イヤフォンでお聴きになるほうがいいでしょう。
If you find a speaker shaped icon, click it and listen to native pronunciation. I recommend to listen with headphones or earphones.
中国語を勉強すると、うまくすれば数億人とコミュニケーションが可能になります。 日本語でも一億人以上と話ができるようになります。 一方、パラオ語は身につけても、せいぜい一万五千人としか話ができません。 ６０億人の中のわずか15,000人です。 お隣のヤップ島ではほとんど通じないそうです。 この、絶滅危惧種的マイナーぶりがなんとも言えず惹きつけてくれます。
Chinese language might enable you to communicate with more than billion people, even Japanese language could make you talk with more than hundred million people. How about Palauan language? How many people could we communicate with? Only about 15 thousand people among more than 6 billion people on earth! So what? Numbers of communicable people must not matter with language’s value. Palauan language just as threatened species around us, you might get feel friendly with.
